Project Summary
Cardiff City Council had a requirement for a dedicated SEN space within Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr, which is a Welsh-medium comprehensive secondary school in Cardiff.
McAvoy was awarded the project following a competitive tendering process via the SEWSCAP framework. Due to the location of the new building within the grounds of Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Plasmawr, a key requirement was to minimise the length of the construction on site as well as the construction traffic to and from the busy campus. McAvoy arranged road closures and implemented a traffic management plan to facilitate out of hours module installation to avoid impacting the learning environment during school hours.
The Offsite Solution
Six SmartClass® modules were delivered on site with 80% of the works having already been completed at our 70,000 sq ft purpose-built facility. The project was completed within 15 weeks and was delivered on time and to budget. The modules feature an entrance lobby, accessible toilet and shower room, unisex WC, cleaner’s store, large classroom, group rooms as well as a fully fitted accessible kitchen.
Comprehensive site works
McAvoy also facilitated site works including tree removal and replanting, ground levelling, ground contaminations including the removal of contaminated soil, foundations, services, pathways, outdoor seating area, landscaping and a sustainable drainage system featuring a rainwater garden.
