Project Summary

Due to increasing pupil numbers at High Littleton Primary School, a new classroom facility was required to bring the school to a single form entry. As part of this transition, the school implemented a modular SmartClass® solution to optimise classroom space and enhance teaching and learning experiences.

"I found working with McAvoy was a great experience. The new modular classroom is neatly constructed internally and externally with lots of natural light that makes the classroom a lovely environment for children. I would absolutely work with McAvoy again, they were helpful and delivered the new classroom on time set out after a few delays.” Shane Nel Head of Estates Midsomer Norton Schools' Partnership

McAvoy was awarded the project following discussions with members of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership (MNSP) to solve the school’s capacity issue on a restricted site. McAvoy’s proposal was well received by the trust, Board of Governors and the school. The contract was therefore awarded to deliver the new classroom facility for September 2023.

The Offsite Solution

The works had to be carried out outside of school term due to the space restrictions on site making it not feasible for any construction during school operational times.

2 bespoke SmartClass® modules were delivered onsite with 90% of the works already completed at our 70,000 sq. ft purpose-built facility, this one-storey solution included an open plan classroom with wet area, storeroom, lobby, and an accessible WC facility. The modules were designed with large floor to ceiling glazing to maximise natural light to into the classroom.

Harnessing Sustainability

This project also included effective ways to reduce energy consumption and minimise environmental impact. The highly efficient split heating and cooling system offers advanced technology to regulate power consumption based on desired temperature. LED lighting was used throughout the building allowing the school to use significantly less energy throughout the day.
