Salisbury’s new Sixth Form Centre rises from the ground

Salisbury permanent modular

Work on the Tollgate Road site is progressing very quickly, with students having been in temporary accommodation at Wiltshire College. The new Sixth Form building is essentially being slotted together like Lego, with ‘pieces’ built in a factory in Ireland.

The modular classrooms are forming the top two floors of their brand new building. It’s expected they will begin teaching in the new building early next year.

Sharon McKinley is a founding Trustee and Vice Chair of Governors at Salisbury Sixth Form College and told Spire FM News:

“It’s great for the teachers, they’ve got their own teaching space that they can personalise. They can make it their own and they can shape it around those students who are being taught over those two years, that they have them as a cohort.

“It’s great for the students. They’ve got their own personal space. They’re not having to share facilities with anybody else. It gives them a great sense of identity here in Salisbury.”

When it’s completed the students will benefit from tailor-made facilities teaching Level 3 qualifications.

18-year-old Robin Sherborne is studying theatre, and is one of the students who’s been looking forward to seeing the new build completed. He’s delighted to have been included in the design process:

“I had meeting a couple of weeks ago to figure out the colour scheme, which was really exciting as well.

“It’s really good to be at the start of a project. For the first time in my life I’m at the start of a project where it will go on to benefit generations of people around Salisbury as well.”
